Written in 1950 by Ray Evans and Jay Livingstone, the song references the Leonardo Da Vinci portrait 'Mona Lisa' and won 'Best Original Song' for the film 'Captain Carey, USA' in the same year, giving Nat 'King' Cole 5 weeks at the #1 spot of the Billboard singles chart.
One of Nat's personal favourites, the song was arranged by Nelson Riddle with Les Baxter and his Orchestra proving the instumental. This song has long been a favourite of mine and I often perform it at dinner events. It has since become of special significance to me after I performed twice for a lovely couple who were huge fans of Nat King Cole (her granddaughter is also called Nat). The lady has since passed but song will forever remind me of her lovely smile. Whevever I sing this song, it is always for her 💛 This is a Live Rehearsal Recording I did, especially for her. |

Mona Lisa Song Lyrics
ona Lisa, Mona Lisa men have named you,
You're so like the lady with the mystic smile. Is it only 'cos you're lonely that they blame, For that Mona Lisa strangeness in your smile. Do you smile to tempt a lover Mona Lisa, Or is this your way to hide a broken heart. Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep, They just lie there; and they die there. Are you warm are you real Mona Lisa, Or just a cold and lonely, lovely work of art Instrumental interlude Do you smile to tempt a lover Mona Lisa, Or is this your way to hide a broken heart. Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep, They just lie there; and they die there. Are you warm are you real Mona Lisa, Or just a cold and lonely, lovely work of art |
